Official opening of Paul Wurth Inc. facility in Valparaiso

In the summer of 2009, Paul Wurth opened in Chesterton (Indiana) its North American Service Center dedicated to maintenance services, spare parts, repair and reconditioning of iron & coke making equipment. Needing to expand its services with a larger shop and associated offices, Paul Wurth recently acquired its own property and moved already in May of this year its workshop activities to a 55,000-square-foot facility in Valparaiso. This location has been chosen as a majority of customers are located in the Northwest Indiana area and as the infrastructure of highways, railways and air transportation is ideal for Paul Wurth’s service operations.

On 18 September 2012, the opening of the new location was celebrated in the presence of Indiana’s  Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, Jean-Claude Knebeler, Consul General of Luxembourg in New York and Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas, joining the executives from Paul Wurth, André Kremer, Advisor of the Group Management Board and Romain Frieden, President and CEO of Paul Wurth Inc. All guests got the opportunity to enjoy a tour of the facility as well as the presentation of Paul Wurth’s wide-ranging services for the iron & steel industry.

Paul Wurth currently employs 14 full-time employees at its Indiana location and is planning to hire additional engineering, manufacturing and administrative positions over the next few years. Based on these job creation plans, Paul Wurth Inc. was offered conditional tax credits and got the support of the city of Valparaiso.

According to the Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas: "We are very pleased that this international engineering company has chosen to invest in Valparaiso. Paul Wurth has a long history of providing technological expertise in the steel industry, specifically for blast furnaces; these are good jobs and we couldn't be happier to welcome them into our city. They are moving into an existing building in Valparaiso, one that housed Task Force Tips for many years - it's a great building and offers Paul Wurth a solid foundation to be successful."
